After a couple of years since their formation, they soon centered themselves in the midst of a vibe of note either known as a psych, garage or surf scene. How about trying all of the above? That’s Retro Dizzy and they’re not estranged to the wacky and broad South African indie music scene at all! Under the belt they gloom with a two album resume, so to speak, with the second record evolving into a lot of new sounds and added on experience.
This week the Hermanus-shored four-piece hoisted their sails once again by means of a brand new single, Seaboat Captain. The new track is supported by the presentation from director and editor Joshua Rijneke with help from Nick Riley and Jasper Baily. Shot at the Mercury Live venue in CapeTown… and the question is what can you really do with a drunken sailor? Seaboat Captain is undoubtedly my favourite piece of work from the now Cape Town based Dizzies. They’ve skilled their way into sprinkling a dash of 50’s rock n roll in while still maintaining the taste and spice of a Psych n Surf feel to it. It is almost after all a type of ‘surf’s up dude’ kind of song.
Well done guys!
Be sure to catch them at this year’s LUSH 3.0 Festival!
